Socialism=Communism

As many have already said, I think this continues to be an argument because the average American equates socialism to communism.  This concept has been embed into our heads as being negative, and so the word immediately illicits a negative attitude.

Second, I think the average American feels that rising health care costs are a result of government interference and so why should we let them completely take over. This link http://www.businessweek.com/debateroom/archives/2007/06/universal_healt.html provides the debate of universal health care.  You can see in the con, the belief that Medicare and Medicaid allow people to receive unnecessary treatments at the cost of everyone else, except the patient.  The argument goes on to say that the only solution is to remove all control in order to recognize each citizens responsibility to pay for their own health care.
